Job Description
The role of a Deputy Principal in Nursing and Midwifery involves supporting the Principal in managing the educational programs, administration, and operations of a nursing and midwifery school or department. This position focuses on academic leadership, student affairs, faculty management, and ensuring the quality of nursing and midwifery education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Curriculum and Program Evaluation:
Program Review: Participate in regular reviews and updates of the nursing and midwifery programs to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
Student Feedback: Gather and analyze feedback from students and faculty to continuously improve the quality of education.
Accreditation Support: Assist in the preparation of accreditation reports and the organization of accreditation visits.
Research and Scholarship:
Research Promotion: Encourage and support faculty and students in conducting research and scholarly activities related to nursing and midwifery.
Grant Writing: Assist in identifying funding opportunities and writing grant proposals to support research and educational initiatives.
Publication: Promote the dissemination of research findings through publications, conferences, and other scholarly activities.
Leadership and Governance:
Institutional Leadership: Act as a key member of the school's leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making processes.
Committee Participation: Serve on academic and administrative committees within the institution, representing the interests of the nursing and midwifery department.
Succession Planning: Support the development of future leaders within the department by mentoring faculty and identifying potential leaders.
Community and Professional Engagement:
Professional Development: Promote continuous professional development among faculty and students, encouraging participation in professional organizations and conferences.
Community Outreach: Engage with the community to promote nursing and midwifery education and build relationships with healthcare providers and stakeholders.
Advocacy: Advocate for the nursing and midwifery profession within the institution and the broader healthcare community.
Student and Faculty Welfare:
Welfare Support: Ensure the welfare of students and faculty by promoting a healthy and supportive learning and working environment.
Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts and issues within the department, providing mediation and support to resolve them amicably.
Diversity and Inclusion: Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department, ensuring that all students and faculty feel valued and supported.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in medical education or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Midwifery plus Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
A Master's Degree is an added advantage;
A minimum of three years of teaching experience as a tutor in a health training institution
Registered with the relevant professional body and the ministry of Education and sports.
A valid practicing licence from Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
