Job Description
Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.
Job Summary: Responsible for overseeing and coordinating nets, harvest and logistics of feed and fish on the lake operations side.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that yourself and team adhere to health and safety practices set out by the company.
Have a solid understanding of the entire lake operations to ensure logistics can best serve the needs within Lake Operations
Ensure that Feed is always available on feed platforms for feeders to use.
Working closely with Grow out supervisor to ensure that different feed sizes are used in the correct ratio.
Records of feed quantities need to tally from stores to lake
Motivating your team to perform to their best and constantly improve
Be involved with Daily health and safety talks (toolbox talks)
Oversight to all harvest related operations, ensuring it runs smoothly and meeting targets.
Strict control over the use of the telehandler for on farm operations
Oversight of all coxswain duties
Oversight on all Net making and net deployment duties.
Co-ordinating with engineering department to have routine maintenance conducted.
Be diligent in daily administration and record keeping
HR: ensuring sick leave is reported, helping co-ordinate work schedules and annual leave.
Planning for operations on a daily and weekly basis
Co-ordinating effectively with the grow out team leaders to ensure work runs smoothly and in a logical manner within the department.
Carry out other tasks as specified by the line manager
Qualifications and Competencies
Degree or equivalent in aquaculture and or fisheries
Good mathematical skills and analytical skills
At least 2 years’ experience with cage farming is beneficial
Ideally be a capable swimmer
Personal Attributes
Hardworking, capable of being involved in farming operations
Good interpersonal skills
Must be confident to give out instructions and lead a team
Must show good endurance and persistence.
Must be willing to constantly learn more and develop their knowledge and skills
