Job Description
A Mechanical Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems and machinery. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical principles and the ability to work with a variety of tools and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assembly and Installation
Component Assembly: Assemble mechanical components and systems based on technical drawings and specifications.
Equipment Installation: Install machinery and mechanical systems at industrial sites, ensuring proper alignment and function.
Fabrication: Cut, shape, and fit metal components to create or repair machinery.
Maintenance and Repair
Routine Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance on mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and identify mechanical faults and issues with machinery.
Repairs: Repair or replace faulty components, such as bearings, shafts, and gears.
Testing and Inspection
System Testing: Conduct tests on mechanical systems to ensure they are operating correctly after installation or repair.
Quality Control: Inspect parts and finished assemblies for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with specifications.
Documentation and Reporting
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on the condition of machinery and any maintenance or repair work performed.
Health and Safety
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments before starting new tasks or projects.
Protective Equipment: Use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Tool and Equipment Management
Tool Maintenance: Maintain and care for tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
Inventory Management: Keep track of tools, parts, and materials required for mechanical work.
Work closely with other fitters, engineers, and technicians to complete tasks efficiently.
Technical Advice: Provide technical advice and support to junior fitters and apprentices.
