Senior Lecturer- (Medical Lab Science Or Medical Lab Technology) job at Mountains of the Moon University (MMU)

Job Description

The duties of a Senior Lecturer in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology encompass teaching, research, administration, and industry engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administration and Leadership

Departmental Leadership: Take on leadership roles within the department, such as course coordinator, or chairing committees, contributing to the strategic management of the program.
Mentorship: Mentor junior faculty members, providing guidance in teaching, research, and professional development.
Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities, including accreditation processes, curriculum reviews, and teaching evaluations.

Student Support and Advising

Academic Advising: Provide academic guidance to students, helping them navigate their studies and plan their careers in medical laboratory science or technology.
Career Mentorship: Support students in identifying career opportunities, internships, and further education paths.
Pastoral Care: Offer support to students dealing with academic or personal challenges, directing them to appropriate resources when necessary.

Contribution to the Institution

Institutional Service: Participate in university committees, boards, and working groups, contributing to institutional goals and policies.
Community Outreach: Engage in outreach activities, promoting the medical laboratory science or technology programs to prospective students and the wider community.

Continuous Improvement

Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development, attending workshops, conferences, and training to enhance skills in teaching, research, and clinical practice.
Innovation in Education: Implement innovative teaching methods, including the use of technology in education and hands-on experiential learning, to enhance student learning experiences.

Qualifications and Competencies

Should have a PhD Medical Lab Science or Medical Lab Technology.
Masters in Medical Lab Science or Technology and Bachelors (Hons) Degrees in Medical Lab Science or Medical Lab Technology or Medicine and Surgery (MBCHB).

Experience and Competences

Should have at least five years of teaching experience at the level of higher level.
Should have at least five (5) intemationally recognized peer reviewed publications in the field of specialization.
At least one of the publications as a main author should have been produced since appointment or promotion to the rank of Lecturer.

Should have supervised at least three (3) graduate students to completion.
Demonstrated computer literacy and adequate communication skills are a MUST.
Implementation of a research project(s) as assistant Pl or member of a research team, is an added advantage.
Being a registered professional in the field of specialization is an added advantage.
