Ndere Cultural Centre
Cultural Organization
Ndere Troupe was founded by Rwangyezi Stephen in 1984 as a cultural organization dedicated to promoting universal unity through music, dance, and drama. As one of over 1,600 groups within the Uganda Development Theatre Association, the troupe is committed to entertaining and educating audiences through its dynamic performances.
The name "Ndere" means "flute," and thus, Ndere Troupe translates to "Flute Troupe." The flute was chosen as a symbol of beauty because it produces beautiful and irresistible music capable of expressing a wide range of emotions, from sorrow to joy and love to loneliness. Moreover, the flute symbolizes universal unity, as it is a common instrument found in cultures worldwide, akin to the blood that flows within us all despite our external differences.
Ndere Troupe takes pride in emphasizing commonalities while celebrating the rich diversity of cultures. Since its inception, it has been a beacon of cultural development, highlighting the beauty and significance of Uganda's heritage and fostering a sense of global interconnectedness.
