Job Description
The role of a Deputy Principal in Nursing and Midwifery involves supporting the Principal in managing the educational programs, administration, and operations of a nursing and midwifery school or department. This position focuses on academic leadership, student affairs, faculty management, and ensuring the quality of nursing and midwifery education.
Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Leadership:
Curriculum Development: Assist in the design, development, and evaluation of nursing and midwifery curricula to ensure they meet educational standards and industry needs.
Quality Assurance: Ensure that academic programs comply with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in nursing and midwifery education.
Instructional Oversight: Supervise the delivery of courses, ensuring that teaching methods are effective and aligned with learning outcomes.
Student Affairs:
Student Support: Provide academic and pastoral support to students, addressing their educational and personal needs.
Admissions and Recruitment: Assist in the recruitment, selection, and admission processes for nursing and midwifery students.
Student Progression: Monitor student performance, progression, and retention, and implement strategies to support students at risk.
Faculty Management:
Staff Development: Support the recruitment, development, and evaluation of faculty and staff within the nursing and midwifery department.
Faculty Support: Provide guidance and support to faculty members in teaching, research, and professional development.
Performance Management: Participate in the evaluation of faculty performance, ensuring that academic standards are met.
Operational Management:
Resource Allocation: Assist in the management of departmental resources, including budget, facilities, and equipment, to support teaching and learning activities.
Scheduling: Oversee the scheduling of classes, clinical placements, and other educational activities to ensure smooth operations.
Policy Implementation: Assist in the implementation of institutional policies and procedures within the department.
Clinical Coordination:
Clinical Placements: Coordinate clinical placements for students, ensuring that they gain practical experience in various healthcare settings.
Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with clinical partners, such as hospitals and healthcare organizations, to facilitate student placements and collaboration.
Clinical Supervision: Ensure that clinical education is delivered effectively and that students are adequately supervised during their placements.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in medical education or a Diploma in Health Tutorship from a recognized institution.
A Master's Degree in the relevant field of training from a recognized institution,
A minimum of four years of teaching experience in the relevant health field two of which should have been Academic Registrar of a Tutor in a health training institution
Registered with the relevant professional body and the ministry of Education and sports
A valid practicing licence from Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council
