Job Description
A Clerk of Works-Interna (Internal Clerk of Works) is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality and compliance of construction projects within an organization. This role focuses on internal projects, ensuring they meet the specified standards, timelines, and budgets.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Supervision:
Monitor construction activities to ensure they comply with the design specifications and building regulations.
Conduct regular site inspections to assess the quality of work and materials used.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure all construction work meets the organization’s quality standards.
Inspect materials, workmanship, and finished work for compliance with project specifications.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of construction progress, including daily logs, inspection reports, and site photographs.
Report any deviations from plans, specifications, or standards to the project manager or client.
Coordination and Communication:
Coordinate with contractors, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders to address issues and ensure smooth project execution.
Attend site meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations on-site.
Monitor the implementation of safety measures and report any safety violations.
Problem-Solving:
Identify potential problems and propose practical solutions to prevent delays and ensure project quality.
Assist in resolving conflicts or disputes that arise during the construction process.
Testing and Inspection:
Verify that tests are performed on materials and structures as required, and review the results for quality assurance.
Approve completed work sections before they are covered or progressed.
Cost Control:
Monitor project expenditures to ensure they remain within budget.
Report any discrepancies or potential overruns to the project management team.
Training and Development:
Assist in training junior staff or interns in quality control and construction inspection practices.
Stay updated with new construction techniques, materials, and regulations.
Qualifications and Competencies
Educational Qualifications:
A degree or diploma in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field.
Additional certifications, such as those from the Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI), can be advantageous.
Experience:
Previous experience in construction, engineering, or a related field.
Experience in a supervisory or inspection role within the construction industry is highly desirable.
Technical Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
Familiarity with building codes, safety standards, and quality assurance practices.
Attention to Detail:
Strong attention to detail to identify and address issues in construction quality and compliance.
Ability to meticulously document and report on construction activities.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Problem-Solving Abilities:
Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to identify problems and develop effective solutions promptly.
Organizational Skills:
Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Ability to manage conflicts and negotiate solutions diplomatically.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to work on construction sites, including climbing, walking, and standing for extended periods.
