Job Description
Arcadia Suites Hotel Kampala is a luxury boutique hotel located in Kampala, Uganda. We provide a warm and genuine hospitality experience with uniquely designed fully furnished suites. Our hotel is situated in the upscale area of Kololo, near the Uganda Museum and British High Commission. We are also in close proximity to Acacia Mall, a tourist hub, and Mulago main referral hospital. Our dedicated team is always available to provide assistance and ensure a memorable stay for our guests.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role as a Junior Sous Chef at Arcadia Suites Hotel. The Junior Sous Chef will be responsible for assisting the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and maintaining kitchen hygiene. They will also collaborate with the culinary team to develop and innovate new recipes, monitor food quality, and ensure timely delivery of food orders. The Junior Sous Chef will work closely with the kitchen staff to uphold high culinary standards and exceed guest expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Cooking:
Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes according to the menu specifications.
Ensure the quality and presentation of food meet the restaurant’s standards.
Monitor and maintain kitchen cleanliness and hygiene standards.
Supervisory Duties:
Supervise and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff, including line cooks and kitchen assistants.
Provide guidance and training to junior kitchen staff.
Ensure that kitchen operations run smoothly, especially in the absence of the Sous Chef.
Inventory and Stock Management:
Assist in managing kitchen inventory, including ordering and stock control.
Monitor stock levels and ensure that all ingredients are fresh and available.
Minimize waste and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
Menu Development:
Contribute to menu planning and development.
Assist in creating new recipes and improving existing ones.
Ensure that menu changes and specials are effectively communicated to the kitchen team.
Quality Control:
Ensure all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality and consistency.
Conduct regular checks to ensure that all kitchen equipment is in good working order.
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization in the kitchen.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Adhere to health and safety regulations and ensure that the kitchen staff does the same.
Implement and monitor food safety standards, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) procedures.
Ensure that all kitchen areas are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained.
Communication and Coordination:
Communicate effectively with the Sous Chef, Executive Chef, and other kitchen staff.
Coordinate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely and accurate service.
Attend and contribute to kitchen meetings and briefings.
Problem Solving:
Handle kitchen issues and emergencies promptly and efficiently.
Assist in resolving conflicts within the kitchen team.
Adapt to unexpected changes and challenges in the kitchen environment.
Training and Development:
Support the development and training of junior kitchen staff.
Assist in conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback.
Foster a positive and collaborative kitchen environment.
Administrative Tasks:
Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, ordering, and inventory management.
Maintain accurate records of kitchen activities and inventory.
Help in managing kitchen budgets and cost controls.
Qualifications and Competencies
Proficiency in culinary arts, including food preparation and cooking techniques
Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and food safety regulations
Experience in a similar role in a hospitality or culinary establishment
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
Culinary degree or certification is preferred
