Job Description
The duties of a Senior Lecturer in Hospitality and Hotel Management typically involve a combination of teaching, research, administration, and industry engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development
Lecturing: Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and tutorials to undergraduate and postgraduate students in subjects related to hospitality and hotel management.
Curriculum Design: Develop and update course content, ensuring it meets industry standards and the needs of students.
Student Assessment: Design, administer, and grade assessments, including exams, assignments, and practical evaluations.
Supervision: Supervise student projects, dissertations, and internships, providing guidance and support.
Research and Scholarly Activities
Conduct Research: Engage in high-quality research in hospitality and hotel management, contributing to academic knowledge and industry practices.
Publications: Publish research findings in reputable journals, books, and conferences.
Grant Writing: Apply for research funding from external sources to support research projects.
Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues and industry partners on research projects and initiatives.
Industry Engagement and Professional Development
Industry Collaboration: Build and maintain relationships with the hospitality industry, ensuring that academic content is relevant and up-to-date with current practices.
Consultancy: Provide consultancy services to hospitality and hotel management businesses.
Professional Development: Stay updated with industry trends, standards, and best practices, and integrate this knowledge into teaching and research.
Administration and Leadership
Departmental Roles: Take on leadership roles within the department, such as program coordinator or committee chair, contributing to the strategic planning and management of the department.
Mentorship: Mentor junior staff members and guide them in their academic and professional development.
Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance processes, including curriculum reviews, accreditation activities, and teaching evaluations.
Student Support and Advising
Academic Advising: Provide academic and career advising to students, helping them with course selection, career paths, and further studies.
Pastoral Care: Offer support to students facing personal or academic challenges, referring them to appropriate services if needed.
Qualifications and Competencies
Should have a Master degree in Business Administration (Marketing) Hospitality Management or Masters in Event Management or Master in Hotel Management or Master in Food and Beverage Management.
Bachelor's (Hons) Degrees in Leisure and Hotel Management or Tourism or Business Administration (Marketing) or BCom (Marketing) or Entrepreneurship or Business Management
Experience and Competences
Should have at least two (2) years of teaching experience in Hospitality and Hotel Management.
Demonstrated computer literacy and adequate communication skills are a MUST.
